Moravia Rojas

Moravia Rojas was born in Caracas Venezuela where she resides to this day. Moravia graduated the Cristobal Rojas Academy of Fine Art in 1965. Aside from being a talented painter, Moravia has also applied her self as a teacher. She had held a position a professor at the Central University in Venezuela for over 20 years. In addition to teaching art history, drawing, painting, and art appreciation, Moravia was invited to judge many national art competitions including that of the National Biennials. Moravia has employed many techniques and styles throughout her journey as an artist. Her early figural work has evolved over the years into a unique style of expressionism. The evolution is best characterized as a maturing. The representative has been abandoned in favor of the essential. Her most recent work is best described as energy frozen into form and color. Her work is extracts the essential energy of the living subject, revealing it and enhancing it. While the sensuality of her rendered forms recall the paintings of Georgia O’ Keefe; the composed elements recall Kandinsky and the German expressionists of the early 20th century. Moravia’s work gives a nod to history, but with a decided uniqueness that makes the art unmistakably Moravia. From the late 1960’s to the present day, Moravia has participated in nearly 100 group and individual shows. Her work has been exhibited at several museums and has won critical praise with several prestigious awards. A condensed list of shows, important collections, and awards, is available for review should you want to know more.
