Ivan Rojas was born in 1965 in the town of La Asuncion on Venezuela’s Margarita Island, where he still resides with his wife and children. Ivan has a diverse educational background. Beginning in the 1980’s Ivan spent two years studying drawing and painting as an apprentice to artist Juan Garcia in the town of La Asuncion Venezuela. Then In the 1990’s he furthered his education and spent three years studying graphic design at the Design Institute in Caracas, he concluded with two years of studies, majoring in sculpture, at the Sofia Imber School at the Museum of Contemporary Art. Ivan’s diverse education informs a unique artistic vision that is evident in the strong and unique style of his art. His work shows a technical mastery of color, an understanding of the classical principals of composition, an appreciation for the power of allegory, the use of iconography, and the rendering of time with the use of American Indian perspective.

Although his paintings appear simple they in fact contain endless layers of meaning. The crafting of art where every line, color, shape, texture, and position, are meaningful, is in and of itself, a great achievement. Ivan's work has become part of the permanent collection of many important museums and institutions including; The Museum of Contemporary Art in Caracas, The Venezuelan Embassy in Mexico, The Coro Art Museum, and The Mario Abreu Museum of Contemporary Art. Since 1987 the art of Rojas has been seen at more than 40 shows and exhibitions from Caracas to New York. Furthermore, Ivan’s work and interviews have been published in such prestigious publications as “Florida Design Magazine” and “Ocean Drive Magazine”. In addition to showing at Sonnet Gallery, the art of Rojas is exhibited annually at art shows in New York, Caracas, and Los Angles. Sonnet is privileged to exclusively represent Mr. Rojas in North America.
